Marvin Starominski-Uehara, Ph.D.

Marvin Starominski-Uehara teaches at Temple University Japan. He is an interdisciplinary scholar, AI literacy consultant and the principal investigator of the Stigmergy Network Theory project. Marvin is a guest editor for an upcoming special issue of Interface Focus (Royal Society). His research explores what it takes to design conditions where genuine capability becomes visible. He is the creator of Trace Pedagogy and holds a Ph.D. in Risk Management and Public Policy from the University of Queensland. Following his doctorate, Marvin was the first recipient of the UQ Career Development Scholarship, which funded him to translate his thesis findings on risk perception and decision making into market value. This led him to co-found DeeepSense, an AI start-up supported by CSIRO and UQ Ventures that used NLP to sort and classify online reviews. The company drew significant attention and traction during its brief run in 2018 and 2019. In 2026, Marvin and colleagues received an award from the TUJ Board in the TUJ Triple I Contest for their Owl Secondhand Marketplace proposal.
